After 5 members summitted Gairich in 2017, Iain had had his eye on Knoydart for a sea paddle trip. The same party, Sandeep, George , Wendy, Neil and Iain agreed to try a sea trip from Glenelg to Barrisdale on the North side of the Knoydart peninsula. We paddled across in calm conditions with cloud boiling around Ladhar Bheinn, our target on the Saturday. We made camp and set off.
We had good views until the top third, when visibility dropped to a few metres. We found the summit with help of GPS, but no view. The rain got heavier as we descended and crossing the burn was a challenge, wading with arms linked. We were relieved to find the tents still standing with the burn roaring past a few feet away.
The next day the cloud was resolutely down so we paddled to Kinlochhourn at the head of the loch. we had been told you could get a cup of tea there, but the man was not for opening. Eventually we gave up and paddled back.
The following morning was wetter yet, so we stuffed wet gear into our kayaks and paddled back into a strong breeze. Back on the Glenelg side, we found a teashop. Newly baked scones, brought smiles to our faces. Must have been the only wet weekend all summer!
