A west coast weekend for club quintet

FIVE members of Deveron Canoe Club enjoyed fantastic weather for a weekend trip to the west coast of Sutherland.

Member Ian Clark said: “Highlights included visiting the famous Old Man of Stoer, an impressive sandstone sea stack, and circumnavigating Handa, a famous island and bird reserve. Both days featured impressive cliffs, sea stacks, arches and caves.

“The calm sea conditions allowed the party to explore the caves fully. Several of the caves were long enough to require torches. The sea was beautifully clear, and the seabed was seen to be studded with starfish and a variety of seaweeds in brilliant colours.

“One member described the weekend as the best club trip ever.”
