Youngsters pool talents to learn

JUNIOR canoe polo players from the Banff-based Deveron Canoe Club joined youngsters from clubs through- out Aberdeenshire for an afternoon of coaching, training and games at Banff swimming pool.

The Deveron Canoe Club contin- gent comprised Jack Barclay, Heather Clark, Hannah Wilson, Jack Wilson, Harris Bauwens, Geordie Duncan, Michael Reid, Cerys Arrowsmith, Evan Arrowsmith, Oliver Oakes, Heather Meikle, Kirsty Meikle, Nicklas Nymand, Asker Nymand and Oliver Nymand.

“Atotalof21juniorpoloplayerswere coached on the day by ex-Scottish and British team members,” said Deveron Canoe Club’s Alan Meikle.

“They learned new tactics and indi- vidual skills and were then able to use them in a set of friendly but competi- tive games.

“The matches produced some really exciting play and, at the end, every- body left as a ‘winner’ with a Christmas chocolate prize for all.

“The juniors are certainly improving under the watchful eye of the group of senior players, and our thanks go to all of them for giving up their time on the day.”
